Benefits of Cupuacu Butter

The Cupuaçu (pronounced coo-poo-ah-sue) Tree is native to the Amazon rainforest, related to the cacao tree. Cupuaçu trees bear oblong, brown, and fuzzy fruits about the size of a melon. Cupuacu fruit has a “seed pod” which contains “beans” similar to the ones found in cocoa. Cupuacu butter is made by cold pressing the seeds of the Cupuacu fruit. The butter yields an earthy, yet slight cocoa aroma. Cupuacu butter is often compared to lanolin, because of its high water absorption capacity. This butter softens and restores elasticity to the skin, which makes it an excellent choice for dry, mature, aging skin and skin ailments. Cupuacu butter has the ability to lock in moisture and restore the natural luster of dull and brittle hair. Studies have shown that Cupuacu Butter protects the skin from damaging UV-A and UV-B rays; consider it a natural sun protection.
