Native to Brazil, the Tucuma palm tree is widely consumed in the state of Pará. In fact, the fruit is so closely associated with that state that it is called tucumã do Pará. The tucuma palm is protected by thousands of large thorns and contains an edible fruit.
Like many palm fruits, the tucumã is a source of vegetable oil. The oil from the pulp has high levels of beta-carotene and is bright orange-yellow in color.
